Blazing Coals

Posted by kirxander on October 25, 2016 at 9:10 AM
We've just finished wrapping up our sermon series on "I Love My Church". If you'd like to watch videos of any of the sermons, or see discussion/study questions, please click on this link.

Here's a great story that illustrates some of the concepts we've been talking about in this series:

D.L. Moody once called on a leading citizen in Chicago to persuade him to accept Christ. They were seated in the man's parlor. It was winter and coal was burning in the fireplace. The man objected that he could be just as good a Christian outside the church as in it. Moody said nothing, but stepped to the fireplace, took the tongs, picked a blazing coal from the fire and set it off by itself. In silence the two watched it smolder and go out. "I see," said the man.

Christians need other Christians. That's what a church is. It's not the building we worship in, but each individual member. And we need each other to keep that fire going; to keep being inspired to do God's will. We need each other for support; for encouragement; for love, and care.

Remember; as much as YOU need other Christians in your life . . . THEY need you too.

God Bless!

Helps me to think about it that way because there are many times I don't necessarily feel like "showing up" . However, if I think of it like someone there might NEED me it helps to motivate me. Thanks for the illustration 😄
